Mercer Island High School students excel in the Eastshore Music League Solo and Ensemble Festival
February 5, 2013
Over 150 MIHS performers participated in the Eastshore Music League Solo and Ensemble Festival held at Liberty High School on February 4. The day included performances every 10 minutes in 22 categories from 8:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. According to MIHS music teacher and band director Parker Bixby, “From clarinets playing Copland to baritones playing Bach, our students demonstrated some of the most outstanding musicianship I have had the pleasure to see in my career here at MIHS. I am very proud of the thousands of hours of work, practice, parental support and more that went in to this extraordinary day. Bravo!”
Included in the day’s successes were 10 category winners and 11 alternates. The winners will participate in the Washington State Solo and Ensemble Contest in Ellensburg, WA later this year. Alternates may be selected to participate as well after remaining district festivals have been held. A list of these outstanding soloists and ensembles is below.
