Groundbreaking ceremony scheduled at site of new elementary school

March 11, 2015 – The Mercer Island School Board will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at the future site of Elementary School No. 4 on March 17 at 1:00 p.m.

“We are excited to share with the Mercer Island community this important milestone in the history of our school district. This ceremony represents the success of our joint efforts to improve conditions for all children enrolled in our public schools. We want to share this moment with the many Islanders who took part in the lengthy public conversation about the needs of our educational system and worked toward the success of the 2014 bond proposition,” said Mercer Island School District Superintendent Dr. Gary Plano. That bond proposition passed with 74 percent support and will fund the new elementary school, the expansion of Islander Middle School, and the addition at Mercer Island High School.

The ceremony will follow a scheduled, special board meeting, which will include a West Mercer Elementary site visit. Regular updates on construction can be found here.
