2019 K-5 Summer School
The Mercer Island School District will offer a three-week "Keeping Pace" 2019 summer program. It is available to current students in grades K-5 who meet the following criteria:
This extended learning opportunity is not like the typical "Summer School" model made famous in pop culture. Our program aims to support the academic skills of our current Kindergarten through 5th-grade students in math and/or literacy. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills in one or both areas. They will have a great time in a fun, student-centered learning environment.
- The student is enrolled in the Learning Support or English Language Program; or
- The student earned below a "3" in reading/writing or math on the second-trimester report card; or
- The student's teacher recommended him/her.
The elementary program will be at Northwood Elementary School. The dates have not yet been finalized, but the team is tentatively looking to hold summer school Monday through Friday from July 8 to July 26. A formal decision on dates will be made on or before February 22.The Mercer Island School District is pleased to be able to provide this opportunity to students.

Hours:9:00 AM to 12:15 PM
Location:Northwood Elementary10:30 am-10:45 am – Recess
Daily Schedule9:00 am-10:30 am – Literacy
10:45 am-12:15 pm – Mathematics
Parents should pick up their children promptly and provide snack and water.
Participation and Tuition:Summer school has two sessions each day. The first is the literacy session and the second is the math session. Students may be signed up for one or both sessions.Tuition:
- Literacy only- $300 per student
- Math only- $300 per student
- Both literacy and math- $600 per student
Students may miss one or more days and still take part in the program. Missing days will, however, impact his/her overall benefit. Additionally, the District does not prorate the cost of participation based on student attendance.
