    Dear MIHS Islander Families:

October/November weather is here and we are back to rain, rain, rain.  But, on a sunnier note, I have the following highlights to share with you:

Junior Class National College Fair October 27, 2017- All juniors have been invited to attend the National College Fair in Seattle on October 27, 2017.  So far we have 240 juniors signed up for this event in Seattle. This is an official field trip so students who are interested in attending this event can get permission paperwork in the Counseling Center.  We are also looking for parents to participate as well. Contact our Counseling Center if you are interested.

Find Out What is Happening Daily – A great way to find out what is happening around school is to read the Daily Bulletin.  It is located on our website.  Select the “Students” tab then scroll down until you find “Daily Bulletin.” This was a great suggestion made by a parent a number of years ago.

Mercer Island Schools Foundation & PTSA Donations – Thank you to all who have donated to the PTSA and the MISD Foundation.  Our staff submitted over $60K worth of grant requests to enrich student learning at MIHS.  While we are still waiting to hear the final word on the grants, your graciousness is appreciated.

Vaping – Lately, we have had vaping issues in our bathrooms.  Vaping has become a fad with some of our students.  It is a violation of the student conduct codes and is not good for their health, so please talk to your student(s) about it.

Parking Lot Safety – If you drive your student to school, please drop off and pick up your student(s) using the Main entrance or the cutouts along the side streets.  It is much less safe to drop off in the staff parking lots and student parking lots.  If you plan to come into the school for meetings or errands, please do not park in empty parking spaces unless those spaces are marked as “visitor.”

Free Tutoring – If your student needs additional help in his/her/their classes take advantage of the free tutoring offered here at MIHS.  To find the tutoring schedule look on the MIHS website under our “Headline News”.  We just added more content area tutoring so the schedule has been revised.

    Best Regards,

    Vicki Puckett, Principal
