Student Representatives to the Board

Student Representatives to the School Board serve a two-year term as a liaison between the Board of Directors and the MIHS student body to elevate student voice.

Student representatives attend at least the first monthly regular meeting of the Board, participate in monthly Superintendent Student Advisory meetings and in weekly meetings with MIHS administration, and represent the District at state conventions and legislative assemblies. Student representatives may cast advisory votes on most matters decided by the Board

Student representatives report to the Board on activities and events in district schools, bring the MIHS student perspective on issues and policies affecting the student body into board discussions, and serve as a liaison between MIHS Student Senate and the Board. 

The MISD Board of Directors is currently seeking a Student Representative who will be entering their junior year in the 2023-2024 school year to serve a two-year term on the Board.

Students on Governing Boards - One student representative will be selected through an interview process held the second week of May 2023. The student representative will earn 0.5 credit each semester while serving on the Board.

For the application process, students will need to:

  • Fill out and submit an application, including two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a MISD staff member and the other from a person of the applicant's choosing. Recommendations from family members will not be considered.
  • Students should use the MISD Staff Recommendation Form for the MISD staff member recommendation. 
  • The second recommendation letter, if not from a MIHS staff member, should use a similar format.

The deadline to apply to serve on the School Board for 2023-2025 is April 21, 2023.
