Asha Woerner Bio
Asha Woerner has been a student in the Mercer Island School District since kindergarten where she got her first taste of school spirit as a Lakeridge Lion. She has three older siblings, who have also gone through MISD. Over the years at Mercer Island, Asha has gained a large appreciation for all the programs and opportunities that this school district offers.
Once in high school, Asha joined the journalism program along with the girls soccer and track and field teams. Journalism has given her an opportunity to speak with students and teachers in all three different levels of schooling on Mercer Island. Asha has grown a passion for hearing diverse student and teacher voices and opinions. Journalism has given her this opportunity. She has been a staff writer, sports editor, and is now the editor in chief of the newspaper. She is also in Key Club, Lacroix Club, and has grown a passion for glass art after taking the class offered by the high school.
Outside of school Asha likes to volunteer with Mercer Island Youth and Family services, especially when it is time to run the tree lot. She plays soccer at Eastside, enjoys hanging out with friends, reading, and skiing. She hopes that this year she can help students feel like their voices are heard, whether that is through school board or journalism.
