South Mercer Playfields

The updates to the South Mercer Playfields (SMP) is a joint project between the City and School District. The updates to SMP were finished in February of 2023 and now nearly two-thirds of the SMP is turfed and lit with new LED lighting. The MIHS Girls’ Softball Team has a beautiful new purpose-built field, and the MI community will have first-class fields for individual and team use.

The District and the City of Mercer Island held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, March 11, at SMP. The ceremony took place during a 16-team MIHS softball hosted jamboree, which was the first time the team had been able to host a jamboree on the island. MISD Student Board Representatives Andrew Howison and Asha Woerner hosted the ceremony and MISD Superintendent Dr. Fred Rundle, Mercer Island Mayor Salim Nice, MIHS softball captain Caley Newcomer, and MIHS softball head coach Amanda Mattocks addressed the large crowd on hand for the Ribbon Cutting.
