Mercer Island, October 24, 2025 - The Mercer Island School District received an Award of Excellence for our 2024 Annual Report at the annual Washington School Public Relations Association (WSPRA) Conference and Awards Banquet at the Enzian Inn in Leavenworth on Thursday, October 23.

The Awards of Excellence for the district’s 2024 Annual Report was in the category of schools with an enrollment of 10,000 students or less.

MISD’s Annual Report, which is delivered to every household and business in the City of Mercer Island, is produced annually to celebrate our students and staff and inform our community about the current economic status of the District.

In the 2024-25 school year MISD focused on Broadcasting student voice in all our initiatives and communications, which the annual report successfully highlights with a story by Jordan Balousek, who was a MIHS senior at the time of publication, on student voice shining in MISD.

In this annual report we were able to add for the first time a map of the United States that showed where each graduating senior was going to college. This map was created by MIHS journalism students and published in the Islander print newspaper at the end of the school year. This college map is always eagerly anticipated as it gives seniors the opportunity to broadcast their voice and ambitions. By utilizing the college map in our Annual Report, we were also able to broadcast student voice to every resident of Mercer Island.

This concerted effort to broadcast student voice as a priority was very well received in the community and was one part of a multi-channel outreach campaign during the school year. The Mercer Island School District is very proud of this annual report for the way information was presented to our community in an informative and visually pleasing way.

Fred Rundle – Superintendent
Matt Sullivan – Assistant Superintendent, Finance and Operations
