Mercer Island, WA, July 9, 2025 – The Mercer Island School District is pleased to announce Randi Fielding has been named the new Assistant Director of Special Services. Fielding is replacing Melissa Robertson who is leaving MISD to pursue an educational opportunity.

This past school year Filding was the principal at Butterfield Elementary STEAM Academy in Maricopa, Arizona. From 2022-2024 Fielding was an assistant principal at Magma Ranch K-8 in Florence, Arizona. She was the acting principal and dean of students at Copper Basin K-8 and Circle Cross K-8 in Florence from 2019 to 2022.  At Poston Butte High School in Florence, Arizona, she was an instructional coach in the 2018-2019 school year a general education and special education teacher from 2013 to 2018.

Fielding is originally from the Everett area and spent her childhood exploring the woods and gullies near Lake Stevens.

“In my career I have served as a special education teacher, instructional coach, dean, assistant principal, and principal. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher and was honored to receive the National Outstanding Assistant Principal Award for the state of Arizona,” said Fielding. “These experiences have helped shape my mission: to cultivate an inclusive environment where all students and staff feel safe, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.”

Fielding received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary and Special Education from Arizona State University in 2013. She earned a Master of Education from Arizona State University in 2018.

“Throughout my life, I’ve lived between Washington, New Mexico, and Arizona,” continued Fielding. “My husband and I have been married for 25 years and have three talented—and very different! —children. Two of our three kids are moving with us to Mercer Island, and we are excited to fully embrace our Washingtonian roots once again.”
