MISD Hosting Three Community Engagement Sessions On Long Range Facilities Plan
Mercer Island, WA, September 12, 2023 – The Mercer Island School District will be hosting three Community Engagement Sessions in October about the District’s Long Range Facilities Plan (LRFP).
The dates of the three meetings are:
Community Engagement Session 1 - Tuesday, October 10 at the IMS Commons from 6-8pm. This is an in-person meeting only.
Community Engagement Session 2 - Wednesday, October 11 – A hybrid meeting at the Mercer Island Community Center at 10am. This session is an in-person meeting and there will also be an online stream of the meeting. This is the Zoom link to the online stream of this meeting.
Community Engagement Session 3 – Wednesday, October 11 at the MIHS Library from 6-8pm. This is an in-person meeting only.
The District strongly recommends in-person participation, but a recording of one of the meetings plus an opportunity for input will also be made available for anyone who cannot attend one of the three hosted events.
Beginning in April 2023, a diverse group of 30+ community members came together to begin the process of updating the District’s Long Range Facilities Plan. The work by this Committee included a review of the 2019-20 LRFP, current demographic information, facility conditions, vision and mission. Mahlum Architects facilitated the 2019-20 LRFP update process and performed the same role for this most recent work by the 2023-2024 Committee.
Over the course of a series of five meetings in the spring and a final meeting yesterday, the Committee developed recommendations for future improvements to our schools. These recommendations will be shared with the larger Mercer Island community at the three Community Engagement Sessions in October to solicit additional input from the community to help further shape the recommendations.
The recommendations developed by the LRFP Committee were presented to the School Board at their meeting on August 24.
The 2023 LRFP Committee developed approaches for the LRFP. These were not proposed by District staff or Mahlum. The proposed approaches were developed through discussions by and with the Committee over six meetings. The meetings were recorded, and those videos, along with meeting minutes and presentation slide decks are posted on the District’s 2023 LRFP website.
On the LRFP website we have a FAQ to help answer questions our community has had about the LRFP process.
