Mercer Island, WA, May 21, 2026 - Our Business and Finance staff and Washington State Auditors staff were all once middle school math students, simplifying and creating equivalent algebraic expressions to expand their knowledge of math. In their professional careers they work with math on a regular basis, including in the audit process of a school district.

MISD has received audit reports with no findings for the 2024–25 fiscal year from the Washington State Auditor’s Office. According to the auditor’s review, the district demonstrated strong financial stewardship and compliance across financial reporting, federal programs, internal controls, and accountability practices.

Auditors reported no material weaknesses, no significant deficiencies, and no material noncompliance in the district’s financial statements, federal grant programs, or accountability audit. The review found that district records met both state and federal requirements, and no corrective actions were identified.

“This audit reflects the strong systems, professionalism, and integrity demonstrated by our business and finance team every day,” said Superintendent Dr. Fred Rundle. “We are committed to managing public resources responsibly and transparently and this outcome reflects the diligence and care our teams bring to their work on behalf of students, staff, and the Mercer Island community.”

This is the fourth consecutive year MISD has received a clean audit.
