Mercer Island, WA, September 24, 2026 – The City of Mercer Island and the Mercer Island School District are partnering to host an E-bike/E-moto Community Forum on Tuesday, November 17, at 6 p.m. at Islander Middle School.

Amelia Tjaden, a Management Analyst with the City of Mercer Island, and an officer of the Mercer Island Police Department Bike Patrol will provide information on E-bike and E-moto classifications, the laws and regulations regarding their use on Mercer Island, and what enforcement looks like.

The forum will also address responsible riding and ways we can work together to keep our community safe.

Amelia is a member of the Washington State Legislature E-moto Workgroup under Senate Bill 6110, which brings together stakeholders from law enforcement, local government, transportation, parks and recreation, and other groups to study and submit statutory recommendations to the Legislature.

We encourage students and families to attend to learn more about E-bikes and E-motos on Mercer Island and ask questions about their classifications and use.

We are grateful to the City for bringing the community together for this important conversation and look forward to supporting efforts that promote safe and responsible riding across Mercer Island.
