2017-2018 Curriculum Reviews/Adoptions

The following major curriculum reviews and potential adoptions happened in the Mercer Island School District during the 2017-2018 school year.

High School English Review

The MIHS English Department started a review of the instructional novels used in the various courses offered to students. The review and alignment efforts started in January 2017 and will continue over several years. The goal is to examine the texts through the lens of literary content, author's perspective, equity, relevance, and value to the student experience.

To allow for interested stakeholders to follow along with the progress being made, the following document offers an overview of the process started by the elementary schools five years ago as well as the changes taking place at IMS and MIHS. The team will update this document as additions are made!

High School AP Comparative Government Review

The MIHS Social Studies Department is reviewing a number of textbooks for this Advanced Placement class in which students grasp complex concepts related to history, politics, and economics. In conjunction with the ongoing 6-12 grade social studies and review, the MIHS team will be leading the process. The team includes the department chair, current teachers of the AP Comparative Government course, and other members of the department. Fred Rundle, Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services, is supporting the process from the Central Office. If you have questions about this text adoption, please contact Ed Puchalla or Fred Rundle.
