ParentSquare

  • ParentSquare Logo-MISD LogoWe are excited to announce we are conducting a two-month pilot with select teachers and staff of a potential new form of school-to-home communication for our District called ParentSquare,

The Mercer Island School District is undertaking the two-month trial of ParentSquare in January and February for teacher, school, and district communications. If, after the two-month trial, the District moves forward with ParentSquare, it will replace the SchoolMessenger platform our schools and district currently use. It could also replace platforms used by MISD teachers to communicate with families.

During the trial, ParentSquare will give families the choice of receiving messages from teachers taking part in the trial via email, text, or mobile app, and in the families' preferred language. ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent/guardian, using their email address and/or phone number on file in our student management platform, Skyward.

Families can also choose to receive information as it comes, or all at once at 6pm daily using the “Digest” function. This “Digest” function means families would receive only one communication, at 6pm, on a day when multiple communications are sent. An example would be a message from me and a message from the school would be combined into one message and it would arrive at 6pm.

We are doing this trial because we care about reaching and engaging with all our families, making our communications equitable and inclusive, and giving our families options to control how they are notified. We want to examine all of these potential positives during the trial.

You will need to create a ParentSquare account in one of two ways to access the ParentSquare web portal and mobile app to set your preferred language and notification preferences.

Use the email or the phone number that you have provided to your school and is in our Skyward system to set up your account in either of these two ways, otherwise ParentSquare will not be able to link your account to your student's information. Your email/phone number must match the contact details in the school's database for this to work. Families of teachers not taking part in the trial will not be able to register an account.

Families taking part in the trial are not required to create a ParentSquare account. The platform enables email communication with families whether you create an account or not. So, if you do not create an account, you will still receive emails from me.

ParentSquare has a robust Getting Started guide for families that can be found here.

And they have a Parents—Getting Started Video that is very helpful.

We have also created a FAQ to provide information to families on how the platform works and how we are looking to use it to enhance our communications with families.

We are looking forward to the two-month trial of this platform to help our families and MISD decide if this is a beneficial communications platform.

    Sincerely,

    MISD Communications
