With school set to begin in just under two weeks and COVID-19 health information changing regularly, some parents have inquired about online options for the 2021-2022 school year. Below is the current information about MIonline.

    Elementary schools

Consistent with communication last June, Mercer Island School District will not offer an elementary MIonline option. When surveyed last spring, we did not have the interest from families to operate a full online program in 2021-2022. While there has been an uptick in inquiries, we are dedicating our resources to launching what we fully anticipate will be an excellent school year at each elementary school.

For the families who had hoped to enroll in MIonline either for the first time or again next year, here is the link to the OSPI website with schools and providers from across the state who offer full-time options. If you enroll with an online school and then decide you wish to return, we will be more than happy to welcome you back.

Should you have questions about this school year and how we plan to return students to school on a full schedule in a safe and supportive way, please reach out to your child’s school. We know some of the remaining concern is about the health and safety of your children. We continue to diligently follow the guidance from WA State Department of Health, which we anticipate will remain dynamic throughout the coming months.

Based on unique student needs and circumstances, the IMS counselors and administrators will work with students and families who would like to explore options that may include online learning opportunities through a third-party provider.

Should you have questions about this school year and how we plan to return students to school on a full schedule in a safe and supportive way, please reach out to your counselor.

    Mercer Island High School

Mercer Island High School will continue to offer online courses through MIonline to support students in a variety of ways. We have had a successful model, offered to students who need to make-up a credit, complete a unique class MIHS does not offer, or accommodate for an unusual circumstance. We have provided options for students to enroll as part-time online students. If online classes are considered, students and their counselors will work closely to determine if this is an option that supports the high school and beyond plan.

Unlike in some communities, there is not great demand for online options in the Mercer Island School District. Thus, the classes that are offered are done so through a third party organization. MIHS provides some support and check-ins by staff, but the classes are not taught by an MISD teacher.

Should you have questions about next school year and how we plan to return students to school on a full schedule in a safe and supportive way, please reach out to MIHS directly.
