Dear West Mercer Families,
We are continuing our year-long focus on kindness by asking our students to “Choose Kindness and Find Wonder” (in themselves and those around them). In an effort to extend this work, I am excited to announce that we will be participating in the international Great Kindness Challenge Week.
The Great Kindness Challenge is next week, January 28th through February 1st.
Some exciting statistics around the Great Kindness Challenge week:
- Over 10 million students will participate this year
- Nearly 20,000 schools have signed up (West Mercer being one of them)
- Over 500 million acts of kindness are anticipated
- Over 100 countries will be involved
At the heart of the Great Kindness Challenge is the simple belief that kindness is strength and that as an action is repeated, a habit is formed.
Students will be challenged to try and perform 20-50 acts of kindness during the week (depending on their age) and keep track of these kind acts through a checklist. A small reward will be given to all students who participate.
We introduced the challenge to students through an assembly yesterday (thank you Mrs. Hersey, Ms. Kurtenbach and our volunteer students for leading this assembly!) and will have Great Kindness Challenge checklists printed and ready for each student for Monday morning.
Please help us support our focus on kindness by encouraging your child to “do kind” and complete as much of the checklist as they can.
