Celebrations: Today is National School Lunch Hero Day.
This has always been a special day to acknowledge our food service staff and this year it is even more important.  Last year, when the district closed, food service stayed open to provide meals daily to our students. In the spring, our service was entirely outside, through all types of weather.  To date, Mercer Island Food Service has served over 144,500 meals to our community. In addition to our food service staff, our heroes include volunteers from the district, MOT, COT and administration staff. They have stepped up to help with service, delivery, meal orders and the opening of over 144,500 paper bags!. I am so very grateful to work with such extraordinary people.  Stop by and say thank you to our Food Service Heroes!

Welcome back! Let’s make this first week back a great one here at IMS.

Celebrations: April is Celebrate Diversity Month, started in 2004 to recognize and honor the diversity surrounding us all. By celebrating differences and similarities during this month, organizers hope that people will get a deeper understanding of each other.

Dance Club - Hi everyone! We are starting a Dance Club where you can learn a lot of fun choreography! You don’t need any previous experience to join and we will be learning modern dances like pop, Latin pop, K-pop, and Bollywood. We will be dancing to songs that are popular right now in the United States, and the other modern dance capitals of the world. This is also an opportunity to become more skilled in freestyle dance and creating choreography of your own. Above all, this is an active, fun club and we hope you’re interested! The club will start during the last week of April and we will meet after school on Zoom. If you’re interested in joining, please join the Schoology group (Access Code: 4PQD-TWR8-25M3H) or send a Schoology message to Ms. Call.

Sources of Stregth Peer Leaders - Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a Sources of Strength peer leader? Did you ever wonder what happens at a Sources of Strength meeting? If so, we have good news! This Wednesday's Sources of Strength meeting is designed to welcome new and interested students. There is absolutely no pressure to join our club for ongoing sessions, but if you are even the littlest bit curious about what we do, we'd love to have you join us from 1-1:30 on Wednesday. We will play a Sources of Strength themed Kahoot! that highlights the basics of what Sources of Strength is all about. Plus, there will be current peer leaders on hand to answer any questions. Please consider coming and checking us out. We would LOVE to see you there. https://mercerislandschools.zoom.us/j/97032908533

Wednesday's Student Seminar - Did you bake and eat a lot of sweet treats when you were at home full time? Did you make and eat excessive amounts of sourdough bread during the pandemic? Did you stay cozy and attend your zoom classes in your pajama pants, from your bed? Do you feel less healthy than you did a year ago? If you answered yes to more than one of these questions, you may be in need of a WELLNESS REBOOT! This Wednesday's Seminar will be hosted by Nurse Rimmer and Counselor Dash and the goal of this seminar is to remind you what good health and wellness looks and feels like. We will have lots of tips for getting back on track, towards feeling like your best self. The seminar is from 8:30-9:30am on Wednesday and the zoom link is posted on Schoology, as a calendar event. We hope you will join us!

Creative Writing Club - Hello IMS! The IMS Creative Writing Club is currently running from 3 - 3:45 on Wednesdays. The club members get together and learn more about the craft of writing! If you'd like to join, message Mrs. Gaffney for the Schoology group link. We'd love to see you there!"

Help us design a poster/bulletin board to support our work as a NO PLACE FOR HATE SCHOOL
We are so excited to be working toward becoming a No Place For Hate school, a designation that the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) gives to schools that are working toward becoming anti-racist, anti-bias schools. As part of that program, we will sign a school PLEDGE, promising to do our part to end hate.

We need a poster that contains the pledge (below) and including an eye-catching, meaningful design. You can design it digitally and we will print it as a poster for the wall, or you might design a bulletin board to which we would staple die-cut shapes with the signatures. The person who creates the winning design will win a Starbucks gift card!

    The pledge is:

    - I will try at all times to be aware of my biases and seek to understand those I perceive as different from others
    - I will reach out and speak up to support those who are targets of hate
    - I will participate in specific ways IMS can promote respect for people and create a prejudice-free zone
    - I will speak and act against all forms of prejudice and discrimination

**Please submit your design to Litza Johnson by Schoology message or by emailing to litza.johnson@mercerislandschools.org**
