Welcome to First Grade! we are so pleased that your child is in one of our classrooms. This year will be a year filled with wonder and excitement.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. This will be my 26rd year at Island Park, and even though I’ve been teaching first graders for over 30 years, each year I find new challenges, great rewards, and joyful experiences. I’ve lived on the Island for over 40 years, and have two grown children, and two grand babies. School began on September 8th. I'm still in room 7, and each day I will be waiting by my outside door at 9:00. I know the first few weeks are filled with anxious feelings from both children and parents. Feel free to come in and say a quick hello, give a quick hug goodbye, and know that your child is in caring, capable hands. Jan VetterI am pleased to be your child's teacher for the next 4 months, while Monica Bond is recovering from shoulder surgery. I taught 8 years in the Renton School District where I taught grades 1-6. I have been a substitute for the Mercer Island School District for the past 10 years and finished the year in a long term assignment in a first grade classroom. I am deeply committed to providing your child a quality education for as long as I am your child's teacher. Michael Lee
Mark your calendars for our First Grade Curriculum Night, Wednesday, September 16th from 6:00-7:00pm. During that time we will be sharing details regarding daily schedule, classroom management, parent & teacher communication, volunteer opportunities, report cards, conferences, and an overview of our curriculum.
Please make sure that your child knows how he/she is getting home from school. In order to make the dismissal process pleasant for everyone, complete the attached form and return it to me on the first day of school. A student profile is also enclosed. Please try to fill it out and return it to me on the first day as well.
We’ll see you soon. If you have any pressing questions, give us a call or send us an email. It’s going to be a fabulous school year!Welcome to First GradeRooms 7 & 8Jan Vetter & Michael Lee
