Dear Northwood Families,
In recent days, I’ve started to hear more birdsong in the morning and the sun is expanding its time in the sky. Spring is on the way!
We are thrilled to note that we have now successfully welcomed all of our grade levels back to in-person learning, from Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st In-Person learning to 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Hybrid learning. We also continue to support our learners whose families have chosen to keep them remote through our previously established Red Remote All year Kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms and our Streaming Learners in 2nd-5th grade. We appreciate the support of all our Northwood families as we have adjusted to the demands of pandemic learning and continued to grow in the ways we are connecting with our students to support their academic and social/emotional growth.

Health Attestations and Community Support
Thank you to all of the Northwood families who have made the daily health attestation process a habit. Health Attestations are a critical part of our MISD COVID-19 Response Plan, and family compliance with this requirement is essential to keeping our schools healthy and safe for students and staff. For in-person instruction, all students must have a daily health attestation completed before being allowed on campus and into their classrooms. Attestations must be completed daily between 5:15am and 8:30am and includes families attesting that their child does not have any symptoms (including a temperature check). Children riding a bus must have a completed attestation prior to boarding the bus. Completing these attestations honestly will be vital to our continued ability to offer In Person learning. All staff will also complete an attestation each day.
Updated Emergency Contacts
It is important that we have the correct contact information for all parents and guardians, as well as emergency contact information in case a parent or guardian cannot be reached. If a child becomes ill while at school or demonstrates signs of COVID-19, we need correct contact information so that a parent/guardian can respond quickly and pick the child up from school. If a student arrives on campus without a completed health attestation, we must be able to contact a parent/guardian to complete the health attestation before a child will be permitted to go to class. Without a completed and passed health attestation, children will not be allowed in classrooms. Please log in to Skyward to verify that we have correct contact information for all parents/guardians as well as for emergency contacts. Thank you.
Absentee Alert Line
Please call the Northwood Absentee Alert number 206-275-5879 any time your child will be absent or tardy to school, whether they are scheduled for in-person or remote attendance. If your child is absent for several days due to illness, please call each day. We need to know your child is home and safe with you any time they are not present at the beginning of each instructional block when attendance is taken.
Mindfulness and Focus Character Trait
Mindfulness and Social Emotional Learning continues at Northwood. Please check out our Mindfulness Challenges and information about our March Focus Character Trait, Patience, on our website Mindfulness Page .
Kindergarten Enrollment for 2020-21
We are already in the planning stages for the 2021-22 school year, and we need your help. Do you have a child who will be starting Kindergarten in the fall? Does your neighbor? Do your friends? Please register your child and/or encourage others to register their children for Kindergarten as soon as possible. The more we know about our incoming class of students, the better able we are to plan for staff and classrooms to welcome them. Additionally, we will host a Spring Into Kindergarten event (date to be determined) for any registered incoming students. This event is an opportunity for our teachers to meet future Kindergartners, engage them in some fun Kindergarten-like activities, and introduce them to the classrooms. The Kindergarten Information Night Slide Deck from our community presentation that occurred on February 2 is available to review on our Northwood website. Registration is online at: Kindergarten Registration 2020-21
