Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Kate Lepp
My name is Kate Lepp. When we enrolled our four daughters in Mercer Island School District 15 years ago, I volunteered with the PTA, and the school musical. West Mercer hired me as a part-time K/1 music teacher, and it was so much fun, I went back to school to earn a masters degree in elementary teaching at the University of Washington. After teaching 2nd and 1st grades at Island Park, I moved to Northwood when it opened in 2016, and have taught here since then. I also co-direct the Northwood musicals with Ms. Brown.
Before I became a teacher, and before I became a mom, I drove around Chicagoland and sold Velveeta and Kraft Macaroni and Cheese to grocery stores. I also worked in international logistics, shipping 40-foot containers of Miracle Whip to South Africa and Bermuda. And before I went into sales, I lived in Australia, and I was an actress, which might explain why reading stories aloud to children is one of my favorite teaching activities.
I am a proud Midwesterner, from Northbrook, IL, graduate of Northwestern University, and number 4 out of 5 kids in my family. Ask me about any of my daughters and I will talk your ear off, I am so proud of them. One thing I know for sure about parenting: it is really hard, every single day it is hard, but it is an honor to be a parent. I cherish my students like they are my own kids, and I am honored to teach your kids.
