• September 2019 Counseling Department Newsletter

Welcome to the 2019-20 School Year!

As we launch the school year, our department wanted to briefly outline how our collective efforts support the post-secondary planning of ALL MIHS students.

First, counselors will provide planning information in large groups as our first layer of intervention.  Throughout the year we will have a variety of grade level activities, evening events and field trips to support students’ efforts with their planning.  In addition, following our presentations we will continue to post slideshows on our Counseling Department website. Additional communication regarding important events will be posted monthly in this newsletter, with reminders and “alerts” sent through e-mail and/or Schoology.  (Students: make it regular practice to check your MISD e-mail accounts!).

As an additional layer of support, the Counselor of the Day Table is up and running.  Students can visit the “C.O.T.D.” table during their off periods or at lunch for drop-in questions with a counselor.  A counselor will be at the table Monday through Friday from 8:00am-3:00pm. Parents are also welcome for a quick consult at the C.O.T.D. table if they check in at the main office first.

Our friendly and helpful secretaries, Ms. Lopez-Salvador and Ms. Brintnall, are available to direct student and parent inquiries as well.

On behalf of our entire team, we look forward to supporting all of our Islander students and families!

Upcoming visits are posted in the Daily Bulletin and in student Naviance accounts under “What’s New.”  Students need to click “register” for any of the visits they plan to attend. Visits begin the week of September 16.
