December 13, 2018
Dear Northwood Families,
I hope your transition into December has been a smooth one. We have had a busy December already with an exciting Green Team assembly, a wonderful Drum/Mallet Club and Choir performance, a successful Parent Playground, grade-level field trips, and in-house enrichment speakers. To cap it off, our 5th graders just returned from an exciting, though wet, trip to Islandwood Outdoor Education School -- we are glad to have them back!

Mindfulness and Character Trait Focus
Our Mindfulness and Character Trait instruction continues at Northwood. Each week, students are given a mindfulness challenge to practice. This month's challenges can be found on our Northwood website here. For the month of December, we are reviewing with students the positive character traits we have learned about and practiced so far this year: Kindness, Cooperation, and Perseverance. Please consider ways you can continue the learning at home by discussing these traits, pointing them out when you see them in family and friends, and considering situations when practicing a given trait might be worthwhile.
Emergency Contact Update
Have your contact phone numbers changed? Have you provided emergency contacts and contact numbers to the school? Please take a moment, now or over the winter break, to check Skyward and ensure we have correct information to contact you or an alternate care provider in case of an emergency. You may make needed changes through the online Skyward RSVP Process. You may also use the Student Change of Information Form found on the MISD website. Thank you.
Parking at Northwood
As you know, parking at Northwood is always at a premium. If you have arrived at school and find there is no parking in the Northwood lot, please note that you may park in the car loop during the school day but must be moved in time to provide a clear loop for drop-off (8:50-9:15am) and pick-up (3:30-4:00pm). Adjusted signage designating parking and no-parking times for the car loop has been ordered, though not yet delivered. New signs will be posted as soon as possible. You may also park further down the 86th Ave SE block during the school day at the Administration building or in the Boys and Girls Club lot. Please comply with Northwood parking lot signs designating Boys and Girls' Club spots, Handicapped spots, and Staff spots.
