  • The following major curriculum reviews and potential adoptions are happening in the Mercer Island School District during the 2016-2017 school year.


    K-5 Science Review

    Charges:

    • Develop Curriculum Criteria - in conjunction with Next Generation Science Standards
    • Review Curricula submitted - leading towards adoption
    • Develop Implementation Plan

    Charges:

    Using gaps from the review committee, and a research base, select either a supplement to add or identify a replacement for the current writing curriculum.

    Gr. 6 Language Arts Pilot/Adoption

    Charges:

    Based upon identified gaps, pilot SpringBoard materials to determine whether or not it is an appropriate fit.

    6-12 Social Studies Review/Adoption

    Charges:

    • Align the current curriculum to the state social studies standards
    • Identify gaps and repetition
    • Examine existing curricula - review existing curricula, determine needs, request new curricula
    • Propose new curricula adoptions/pilots as appropriate

    3-5 Highly Capable Literacy Review/Adoption

    Charges:

    Identify new curriculum options, pilot materials, and examine effectiveness.

    Meeting Dates and Summaries:

    • April 7, 2016 - Review material options (PM)
    • November 1, 2016 - Professional Development for pilot through the CCC PD department (full day)
    • January 19, 2017 -  Shared experiences with the training and materials. Determined we would convene again to make a decision after parent input and more teacher experience.
    • March 8, 2017 - Voted for Making Meaning to be adopted (unanimous)

    High School Horticulture Review/Adoption 

    Charges:

    Identify new curriculum options, pilot materials, and examine effectiveness.

    Committee Members:

    • October 4, 2016 - Horticulture Today- Pilot approved
    • January 6, 2017 - Crest and Learning Services update on the pilot of materials
