Superintendent's Advisory Council

  • Purpose

    The Superintendent's Advisory Council (SAC) is a representative body that will communicate on a variety of important topics raised by the Superintendent and raised by SAC members with stakeholder groups. The SAC will advise the Superintendent on policy matters as they pertain to topics discussed at the SAC meetings, generally held three times during the school year. Prior to fall, 2014, the SAC was known as the District Advisory Council.

    The role of Superintendent's Advisory Council members will be to: 
    • advise the Superintendent on issues/decisions and/or policy matters that the district is facing,
    • be informed about the background, rationale, and decision-making processes made by the district throughout the year as issues arise,
    • communicate issues and concerns raised by various stakeholders as represented by Superintendent's Advisory Council members,
    • share the District's vision/mission with a variety of representative groups, and
    • accurately represent the whole constituency.


    The Superintendent's Advisory Council is appointed and is comprised of students, staff, and community representatives recommended by the following groups:
    • 1 teacher from each school (6 total)
    • 1 classified employee
    • 1 Mercer Island Education Association representative
    • 1 Principal representative
    • 1 parent from each school (6 total)
    • 2 PTA District Council Representatives (current and past presidents)
    • 2 MIHS students selected by the principal
    • 1 City Council representative
    • 8 community members selected by:
      • Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce Service club (rotated bi-annually between clubs)
      • Mercer Island Clergy Association
      • Mercer Island Schools Foundation
      • League of Women Voters
      • City of Mercer Island Youth and Family Services
      • Mercer Island Preschool Association
      • Community Member(s) at Large
    • 1 Board Member Liaison
    • Communications and Alumni Coordinator
    • Director, Human Resources
    • Assistant Superintendent, Learning Services
