March 15, 2017 - The Mercer Island School District conducted annual water testing earlier this month, a precaution to ensure the highest water quality throughout its facilities.
On February 27, our Mercer Island community was shaken and experienced a threat of violence, or in other words an act of domestic terrorism, against the Stroum Jewish Community Center. Our District condemns this threat of violence in the strongest terms possible, whether this reprehensible act was intended as an act of hate, anti-Semitism or otherwise intended as anti-immigrant.
March 8, 2017 - KMIH 889 The Bridge, the Mercer Island High School student radio station, received eight Golden Microphone awards at the 77th Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference and Awards in New York City.
March 6, 2017 - Mercer Island School District is now accepting kindergarten registrations for the 2017-18 school year. Families may download the registration packet here and return it to their neighborhood school. Children must be five years old by August 31. 2017 to register for kindergarten.
February 28, 2017 - A record nine teams representing Mercer Island schools have qualified for the Destination Imagination state tournament.
February 24, 2017 –The Mercer Island School District will present its second annual Pathfinder Awards to three graduates of Mercer Island High School whose achievements, strength of character, and citizenship inspire and challenge today’s youth to make significant contributions to humankind.
February 22, 2017 - This fall, two of the five Mercer Island School Board seats will be up for election. This includes board positions 2 and 4. Board members are elected to four-year terms by Mercer Island voters.
February 16, 2017 - KMIH 88.9 FM The Bridge, the Mercer Island High School student radio station, will no longer be simulcast on 94.5 FM effective February 23, 2017.
February 16, 2017 - The Mercer Island School District has begun the process of updating its 2012 Demographic Study as a best practice for long term planning for operations, transportation, and facility needs as population data for the next five years and beyond is studied and analyzed.
January 26, 2017 - There have been no weather-related school cancellations thus far this year, and Thursday, February 16 was reserved as a school make-up day. If there is no single weather-related missed day through February 1, the District will include February 16 as a non-school day. However, if there is a major weather-related event (more than one school day missed), the District may still need to use February 16 as a make-up day.
January 26, 2017 - KMIH 88.9 The Bridge launches at noon on January 31, replacing the current “Hot Jamz Radio” format on the Mercer Island High School student radio station.
January 18, 2017 – In a message sent to Mercer Island families, staff and community members today, Superintendent Dr. Gary Plano announced the end of his tenure as superintendent of the Mercer Island School District on June 30, 2017.
January 12, 2017 – The Mercer Island School District’s Superintendent, Dr. Gary Plano and Board Director and Legislative Representative, Ralph Jorgenson, joined education leaders from throughout the Puget Sound region today to urge legislators to enact a bi-partisan solution to the “levy cliff” issue – which threatens to create a $228 million hole in local school budgets for the coming school year.
